Incumbent Republican State Representative for District 2 Dan Flynn won re-election Tuesday, claiming victory over Democrat challenger Scott Cornuaud of Quinlan and Libertarian Dawn Childs of Wills Point.

Flynn, who represents Hunt, Rains and Van Zandt counties in the Texas House, won his third term by a large margin. With all but two of the district’s 65 precincts reporting late Tuesday night, Flynn had received 17,873 votes (58.2 percent), to Cornuaud’s 11,482 (37.3 percent) and Childs’ 1,350 (4.3 percent).

Flynn won in all three counties. In Hunt County, Flynn received 9,682 (56.01 percent) to Cornuaud’s 6,859 (39.68 percent) and Childs’ 746 votes (4.32 percent).

“I feel honored that the people of Hunt County have given me such a strong show of support,” Flynn said. “I hope to continue to represent Hunt County to the very best of my ability.”

Cornuaud congratulated Flynn on his victory.

“He ran a clean campaign and apparently the people are happy with the direction we’re going,” he said. “The experience I had was awesome and I met more good people than I ever thought I would meet throughout the process.”

Flynn said he would continue to work toward the issues on which he campaigned, including limiting government.

“Having been appointed by the Speaker of the House to be on the Sunset Advisory Committee will give me a very good opportunity for that,” Flynn said, also stressing he would continue to push for lower property taxes and increased security along the Texas/Mexico border.
