- Today, Speaker Tom Craddick (R -
Midland) appointed Rep. Dan Flynn (R
- Van) to the Interscholastic League Advisory Council.
"This past session, Rep. Flynn was actively involved in
important pieces of legislation affecting the University
Interscholastic League (UIL)," Speaker Craddick said. "He is
very passionate about issues affecting high school
competition, and he will be an asset to the council."
The Interscholastic League Advisory Council reviews the
rules of the University Interscholastic League and makes
recommendations to the UIL Legislative Council, the State
Board of Education, the governor and the legislature. The
Advisory Council may also study UIL policy as it relates to
the eligibility
of students to participate in programs, the geographic
distribution of UIL resources and programs, and gender
equity.
"I appreciate Speaker Craddick giving me the opportunity to
serve on the UIL Advisory Council," Rep. Flynn said. "The
UIL has an outstanding record of working with schools,
parents and students, and I look forward to working with
them in keeping Texas the leader in
the nation for student programs and participation."
The Advisory Council is made up of 11 members: two members
of the State Board of Education; a member of the Texas House
of Representatives appointed by the speaker; a member of the
Senate appointed by the lt. governor; two members of the
legislative council of the University Interscholastic League
appointed by the chairman of the council; two public school
board members appointed by the commissioner; and three
members of the public appointed by the commissioner.
Rep. Flynn is serving his serving his third term as state
representative for Texas House District 2. He is the vice
chair for the House Committee on Financial Institutions, and
is a member of the House State Affairs Committee and the
Sunset Advisory Commission.
