(AUSTIN) - Last week, while attending the National Conference of State
Legislatures' Annual Meeting, in Boston, Rep. Dan Flynn (R - Van) was elected to
the NCSL Executive Committee as a member-at-large.
"I am pleased Dan will be helping guide this bipartisan organization that serves
legislators and staff of the nation's 50 states," Speaker Tom Craddick (R -
Midland) said. "Dan is a hard-working, energetic legislator who has long been an
active participant on NCSL standing committees and at NCSL meetings. He will
serve this committee well." Rep. Flynn was one of many state legislators who
were nominated for the position.
"I am especially happy that another member of the Texas House has been chosen to
serve in this capacity. I want to thank Rep. Leo Berman for his service on the
Executive Committee for the past three years," Craddick added. Rep. Berman (R -
Tyler) has served three consecutive one-year terms on the Executive Committee."
"I am honored to receive this distinct honor. Working with NCSL and helping to
guide the policies our state and the rest of the nation adopt is, by far, one of
the most enjoyable facets of my job as a State Legislator," Rep. Flynn said. "As
a member of the Executive Committee, I am eager to present and bring back to
Texas innovative public policy ideas on transportation, taxes, and
infrastructure. Understanding how each state works to serve its citizenry is
vital to Texas and will certainly prepare me to better serve the public."
The Executive Committee is the NCSL governing body and is in charge of the
organization's operations, committees and publications. The Executive Committee
is made up of 60 elected members -- seven officers, 30 at-large members who are
legislators, 16 legislative staff members and three ex-officio members.
Legislative staff are only allowed to vote on matters of organization, not of
public policy. The committee meets four times a year.
